Hosts Post Celebratory Event at iconic FAO Schwarz

Miniland continued their support of the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) by joining fellow sponsors at their annual NYC Buddy Walk on September 7, 2024 in Central Park.  Much like their first event with the organization back in 2022, Miniland’s dolls and accessories made a huge splash as attendees gathered around the booth to explore the various ethnicities and genders with DS in Miniland’s collection.

As part of the event, Miniland gifted attendees with their award-winning dolls with Down syndrome, much to the delight of the Miniland and NDSS volunteers.   Upon the booth opening, one guest ran up to the table and exclaimed “Mom! That doll looks just like ME!”

Attendees also participated in an arts & crafts experience at Miniland’s station, where they decorated doll t-shirts, adding a personal touch to their dolls in a show of solidarity.

Decorating t-shirts for their dolls was a great way to explore creativity

and bond with their new Miniland best friends.

“We couldn’t be prouder to continue supporting NDSS and their efforts to ensure respect, kindness, and inclusivity of the Down syndrome community across the country,” said Clara Roque, North America Sales Manager for Miniland USA. “It is crucial for young children to feel like they belong among the other children in their age group, especially at a young age and stage of development. In just one glance, our dolls with Down syndrome can non-verbally communicate so many impactful messages like ‘I see you,’ ‘You belong here,’ and ‘You are accepted.’ Our collection of inclusive toys not only assures children of their own place in the world, but also encourages them to embrace and support others around them.”

Following the Buddy Walk, attendees were invited to continue the celebration at F.A.O. Schwarz in Rockefeller Center, where they experienced a live sketch event with renowned fashion illustrator Nicole Jarecz. This special event offered shoppers a unique opportunity: with every Miniland Doll purchased, they received a personalized illustration featuring themselves and their Miniland doll.

Families were awestruck by Nicole Jarecz’ talent and warmth as she created

sketches families will cherish forever.

Guests were beyond amazed at the talent and sensitivity shown by Jarecz, capturing the likeness of their children with DS with respect and warmth, as they held their new Miniland best friends.

In further support of NDSS, Miniland will make additional donations during the month of October in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Miniland products will be available for purchase on NDSS’s “Shop NDSS” page, with a portion of the proceeds directly benefiting the organization.

Kandi Pickard, the President & CEO of NDSS, expressed her enthusiasm for the continued partnership, emphasizing the significance of inclusivity and representation.

“Miniland’s dolls, including those representing children with Down syndrome, play a crucial role in promoting diversity and representation. They ensure that every child can see themselves reflected in the toys they play with,” said Pickard. “This partnership not only continues to celebrate the impactful Buddy Walk but also strengthens the message of inclusivity and representation from an early age.”
